THE STORY
The residence was inspired by a combination of traditional architecture and the coastal cottages which line the flower streets of Corona del Mar where the home is located. Throughout the design process, it was of paramount importance to unify the indoor and outdoor living areas, in order to make the most of the exceptional climate, ocean views and social neighborhood. To this end, we created a spacious front patio and a 500 sq. ft. roof deck which allowed for panoramic ocean and city views. The deck was a challenging architectural element as it had to fall under strict city height limits and required us to sink the garage in order for it to stack properly above the master suite to capture ocean views from both locations.
As a move down home the master suite became a focal design element with a beautiful vaulted ceiling and gallery windows throughout the bedroom and bath overlooking the ocean and Begonia Park. With its open floor plan, lap siding, and clean-lined finish carpentry, the home utilizes traditional design elements and pairs them with the soft modern aesthetic that exemplifies the current landscape of coastal living within the community.
