THE STORY
 

Gavilan Ridge Club serves as the social heart of the active adult community in Rancho Mission Viejo, CA. Conceived as a community hub of multiple distinct spaces organized around a welcoming courtyard, the club creates a series of indoor and outdoor experiences that encourage residents to gather, engage with one another, and enjoy the amenities that this 55+ community has to offer.

Drawing inspiration from the coastal architecture of Spain, the design embraces a timeless aesthetic defined by simple forms, flat rooflines, and enduring materials. Rather than recreating a specific historical style, the architecture captures the essence of Spanish design, blending old world character with contemporary simplicity.

Throughout the commons, intimate pocket seating areas, tranquil outdoor enclaves, and flexible gathering spaces provide opportunities for both lively social interaction and quiet moments of retreat. Spaces are scaled to accommodate everything from small group conversations to larger community events, allowing the club to adapt to the evolving needs of the residents of the Gavilan Ridge community.
