THE STORY

With a pastural lagoon as the anchor of the site, The Ranch Camp pays homage to the rich history of the land while providing Rancho Mission Viejo residents a communal area to connect, play, and foster the ranch lifestyle. The curvatures of the land and casual placement of the freeform buildings create an airy ambiance as though the on-site amenities are growing with the land.

The Fitness Center is an open-air pavilion where residents can enjoy the territorial views and rolling hills of RMV while exercising in the state-of-the-art fitness center. This sets the “design tone” for the additional buildings on site given its contemporary Heritage Ranch exteriors including a metal roof and red, board and batten siding. Large, view oriented wall openings provide direct access to the pool and spa area, further contributing to the open-air feel of the site.

The Ranch Camp Trailhead sits north of the Fitness Center which will eventually connect to the extensive trail network that is interwoven throughout the community and the surrounding natural canyons. And at the heart of the site is Ranch Cove, a sprawling, swimmable half-acre of water surrounded by a host of exciting gathering areas, fire pits, barbeques and play areas.

WHA designed a series of modular buildings in The Ranch Camp. The Nature House provides a unique and interactive home buying experience for prospective buyers, while the Event Barn and Heritage House will host a variety of festivities for residents, from line-dancing to community gatherings, to concerts and movies on the lawn. The Nature House additionally hosts interactive classes and events to educate the community on the local natural surroundings. The Heritage House showcases The Ranch’s rich history with experiences and amenities that connect residents to the ranch lifestyle, including a pasture home to horses, cows, and more.

Authenticity and simplicity were emphasized when curating this site to accommodate the residences of Rienda. The compatible yet varied architectural style elements of the amenity campus emphasize the ranch lifestyle and focuses on creating a strong sense of community and pride. Family fun activities that strengthen the bond and culture within the Rancho Mission Viejo community begin at The Ranch Camp.
